 THE WORLD'S MOST MISUNDERSTOOD DOG not available anywhere else in Australia Actually the older (and hopefully wiser) I get - the more I realize that many television or newspaper journalists are sensationalists - their main aim is to create a story, make a headline - something that sells - sometimes regardless of the truth and often with only scant knowledge and shallow research! But can you remember the last time you saw a journo publish a retraction for an error they made? Now let's not be mistaken - one look at these smallish dogs, shows they are extremely muscular and powerful for their size. They possesses typical canine teeth, backed up with the most amazingly powerful jaws! But the only aggression that English Staffordshire Bull Terriers possess is that specifically bred into it - for so-called sport! You see a couple of hundred years back, cruel men considered it fun, to allow dogs to fight other animals and each other - in fights that often led to death! The result of the focus of that breeding is a power packed dog that can do real damage to another dog or a cat, rats or local wildlife etc. So they ARE dogs that require an owner that is consistent and firm in loving discipline, to provide proper basic obedience training. So if you're the type of owner that buys a dog only to toss it into the backyard without training - then do yourself - the breed and the dog a favour - DON'T BUY A STAFFORD! Unfortunately for the breed though, because of their muscular appearance and reputation for strength and fighting - they can and do sometimes appeal to the wrong type of owner. They are often seen as some sort of status symbol or symbol of aggression, which can appeal to many (often young) men for the wrong reasons! A fact that only compounds the image problem of the Staffordshire, and adds to their image of aggression!
